TPCK

  • Framework for teacher knowledge

  • The interaction of the subject matter and effective teaching strategies to help students learn the subject matter. It requires a thorough understanding of the content to teach it in multiple ways, drawing on the cultural backgrounds and prior knowledge and experiences of students.

  • The framework builds on Lee Shulman’s construct of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) to include technology knowledge.
  •  His colleagues was to  reframe the study of teacher knowledge in ways that included direct attention to the role of content in teaching.
  • Shulman in 1986 introduced the phrase pedagogical content knowledge and sparked a whole new wave of scholarly articles on teachers' knowledge of their subject matter and the importance of this knowledge for successful teaching.
